About the Game

The game of Blackjack is one that is played against the house, this means that you try to beat the dealer. The game can be played by one to seven people for each table. To beat the dealer, you need to have more card values than the dealer. However, the card value must not be more than 21. If the card values exceed 21, it is regarded as a bust and the house wins. When there are multiple players in the game, the player with the highest card value walks away with the cash.
To get the value of the card in a player’s hand, the cumulative face value of the cards would be added. All face cards, including the King, Queen, and Jack have a face value of 10. All other cards from 2 to 10 have their normal face value. The Ace card has a value which can either be 1 or 11 depending on which one would combine to make a better face value for the hand. If the card value of an Ace card is 1, it is called a “soft’. If the card value of an Ace card is 11, it is called a “hard”. The difference between this two is that in a “soft” getting a face card would not result in a bust. On the other hand, if it is a “hard” it could result in a bust.
When Blackjack is started, the players each place their bets. When this has been done, the dealer deals out two cards to each player and to himself. The card for the players could either be facing down or facing up. For the dealer, one of his cards faces up while the other faces down. When a player gets his card, he can choose between “hit“ or “stand”. “Hit” means that the player requests for an additional card. “Stand” means that the player chooses not to have an extra card. When either of these two options is chosen, the cards are counted.
In addition to “Hit” and “Stand”, there are other features that can be utilized by the player. These options are: split, doubling down, surrender and insurance.
A split occurs when a player has two cards of identical value. When this occurs, he has the option of splitting it in two and playing them as separate hands. Doubling down is when you double bet on your first two cards. Surrender is when you lay down a bad hand before drawing another card. When you do this, you lose half your bet. It might be better than losing all. Insurance can be used when the dealer gets an Ace. When this occurs, you can place half your bet as insurance to protect you if the dealer gets a 21.
